What customers say?

“ We enjoyed a very lovely lunch, the food was pretty good - salad rolls were good, Bahn Mi also pretty good. What stood out the most was the service and how kind the waiter was to us. He offered lots of information about the food and the restaurant which ultimately elevated the experience. Definitely worth going for the good vibes! Only downside was that it was a little cold inside, which is fair when it’s -20+ outside. ”

“ Hem Social has quickly become my go-to spot for great food. The specials are always a surprise, and they never disappoint. The flavors are spot on. Whatever you pick from the menu, you’re in good hands. Super friendly staff. Drinks are great too. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area. ”

“ Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts! Meaning alleyway in Vietnamese, a Hem is where you'd find hidden gems. The steamed wontons are a solid start. The filling combines aromatic pork umami with the mild sweetness of shrimp, accented by carrot, sesame oil, soy and scallions. Tossed in a chili-satay dark soy vinaigrette, the dish strikes a refreshing balance of umami, sweet, tang and lightly spicy notes. Bringing a crisp contrast in textures, this vegetarian-style green papaya salad combines refreshing cabbage, softer carrots, fried shallots, king oyster mushrooms, peanuts, mint, and airy shrimp chips. The fish sauce dressing is mild with a distinct acidity that offers an approachable version of Vietnamese-style salad for foreign tongues. ”

“ This place is pretty good! In my late 30s, the portions were perfect but if I was a hungry 20 year old, I can see how you’d want bigger portions. There’s only one size for pho so just a heads up! Everything else about the place was lovely. ”

“ As Vietnamese people ourselves, we enjoyed the food and the vibes at this place. Good service as well from Nam, and a very bright and comfortable space to hang out. The coffee was North American size and taste, which I don't prefer (I like a small but very strong Viet coffee) but I think they're trying to cater to the local population. The weekend specials look tasty and I wish I could try other dishes, so I hope they will consider making vegan and vegetarian specials more often! ”

“ Review Updated: I’ve now had the wontons, sauté beef vermicelli, chicken vermicelli and their in-house made flan. I've eaten a lot of Vietnamese food, right by College & Sheridan, there are two restaurants Pho Linh and Pheonix that have been staples in the community for decades. This is a great addition to the West community. The steamed wontons were about 9 dollars, they were okay. It's quite a small portion for the price but it was fresh and nice to try. This is definitely a Viet place to try the sauté beef vermicelli and chicken vermicelli. To be honest, the sauté beef vermicelli is amazing, I enjoy the chicken, however I do recommend their beef vermicelli, it’s very delicious, flavourful, well-portioned and fresh, I still think about it. It costs $18 excl. tax. It's a very decent price. My first experience there, the place was busy and they only had available seating at the bar, I sat at the bar. I would not eat here again at the bar or recommend anyone for that matter. I still stand by this, as it’s not comfortable. The seats are very low at the bar. The bar was sitting almost at collarbone level for me eating. I struggled to eat, even spilled some food for the first time at a restaurant on myself when the dishes are not very messy. Hem Social did acknowledge this, were apologetic and will take this into consideration for others in the future. As I sincerely appreciate their honesty and integrity, I’ve adjusted the review for both the food and atmosphere. Ultimately, after my second visit and sitting at a table, trying more of the menu, I can safely say, this place offers very delicious Vietnamese vermicelli, that is decently price, fresh and sincerely tasty. The staff are warm, they care, and I’ll definitely be back, as their vermicelli dish is such a nice staple to have for food choices in our area. ”

“ We had a wonderful experience here! The staff were very friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. We tried the weekend special coconut curry — it was incredibly rich and flavorful, and the vegetables were especially fragrant. The overall atmosphere felt warm and cozy, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with friends. Highly recommended! ”
